Variable voltage power supply circuit project using LM317HV
Using LM317HV adjustable 3-terminal positive voltage regulator can be designed a very simple high current variable power supply circuit .
LM317HV adjustable regulator is capable of supplying in excess of 1.5A over a 1.2V to 57V output range. The design of these high current power supply is very easy , because the LM317HV require just few external resistors to set the output voltage. Further, both line and load regulation are better than standard fixed regulators.
Also, the LM317HV series offers full overload protection available only in IC’s. Included on the chip are current limit, thermal overload protection and safe area protection. All overload protection circuitry remains fully functional even if the adjustment terminal is disconnected.
An optional output capacitor can be added to improve transient response. The adjustment terminal can be bypassed to achieve very high ripple rejections ratios which are difficult to achieve with standard 3-terminal regulators.
As you can see in the circuit diagram , these electronic project power supply require three LM317 HV regulators , connected in parallel to provide a maximum output current up to 4 amperes at a variable output voltage from 4.5 volt up to 25 volt .
The input voltage for this 4 A variable power supply electronic project , must be around 30 volts DC.
